About
This exhibition consists of two parts: a moment’s eternity & future déjà vu.
A moment's eternity displays about 40 works reflecting both HASHI's still life ouevre and works encompassing his "Action Still Life" technique, the technique that established HASHI as a prominent photographer in New York. In the early 1980s, HASHI received great acclaim for his creative execution of photographs that captured objects normally too transient to be perceived by human eyes, such as the movement of water, thereby freezing the motion of objects in "a moment of eternity." HASHI named this still life technique "Action Still Life" and considers the series his signature work.

Future Déjà Vu will display about 60 works from HASHI's original HASHIGRAPHY. This new series reveals anew that the photographer has the promise to become as significant a player in the fine art realm as he has in the commercial. HASHIGRAPHY is an expression of his unique view of generations and objects. The flow of time is in constant change, and never comes to a rest. In response, there may exist a sense of uncertain anxiety and a resignation toward the fact that we will all fade away with time. And yet, what about the "now" that is to be passed on to the future? What about the unerasable traces that endure in our hearts? What about the genes that we have inherited from the past, and which cannot be forgotten or destroyed even in these fast-changing times? They will be bequeathed to the next generation, and to the generation after.

The monotone works that comprise HASHIGRAPHY were born of a question that intrigued HASHI for years, namely, "How will the present world which we inhabit appear to the people who live in the year 3000?"

HASHI's artworks were created by his limitless curiosity and his passion will garner more richness with the passage of time, and will hit on something very central in its viewers. One feels that his sensibilities were nurtured in Japan then fused with the highly honed skills he achieved in New York.

Please take delight in the visual perspective and sharp sensitivity of Yasuomi Hashimura—a man who breathes photography and who continues to explores new challenges.

During the exhibition, there will be talk shows in which HASHI and a guest will discuss behind the scenes action in photography, the photography business in New York, and HASHI's philosophy fostered by his art.
